The waist that is. Can I call this a drop waist skirt? Well, if I can, it’s so totally me! I made my first version of this skirt up a few weeks ago and I’ve been loving it to pieces ever since. This time, I jazzed the pattern up a little by adding a couple of cute front pockets. I also found a way to use up some completely and utterly amazing fabric scraps I had lying around.
The way the skirt hugs the hips, and the addition of the front panels makes this skirt so much more flattering than a basic, gathered skirt. I’ve got plans to add a straighter, higher yoke option to this pattern that I might have to try out next. But here are some shots with a simple white top, which show the details of the skirt more clearly.
In real life, I’ll be wearing this particular skirt with my favourite stripes, which is the main reason I designed that striped top in the first place.
I think your drop waist obsession is beginning to rub off on me. This is so cute, and I love the mix of prints.

This is so perfect to me. I don’t need to say how much I love a drop waist and there is something just so flattering about this one!

Too lovely! I feel about drop waist gathered skirts the way I felt about culottes. Oh my poor pear shape. Are you ready to convince me I’ll look as good as you in this style? It might take a bit of work. But dang girl you look hot!

Oh you and your lovely pear shape! Tell me, don’t culottes and wide leg pants look fabulous on you! So this shape skirt, in all honesty, I actually think it would look better on a pear shape. For my eyes, I feel like the close fit around the hips accentuates my slim hips and therefore accentuates my broad shoulders, quite the opposite of what I dream of in clothes (haha, I want hips!), but I can’t help myself, I like the style. So I AM convinced this would look great on you 😉

I’d also need to raise the hem about 4 inches!! Knee length is my nemesis. I have muscly knees. I do I really do. And I love my body, really I do 😉

What a fabulous outfit! I always feel I’m too short for drop waist styles, but I do love them on other people. Love your shoes too.

I like the skirt – but I don’t see this as a dropped waist skirt! It looks to me as though the waistband sits at the waist. Then there is a yoke before the fullness of the skirt comes in. Am I missing something?

Haha no you definitely are not missing the point. I have a bit of a history with drop waist dresses (i think I’ve probably made about ten in the past few years! ) it was a bit of a joke… (i was referencing the lowered gathered section but a long bow I know 😉)

Slightly cropped, big sleeves & stripes… Oh yes! The skirt is great too. I particularly love the pockets.
